In a bid to provide fresh air, various government departments have issued challans amounting to Rs 7 crore for waste burning and dust pollution at construction sites in the National Capital. The environment department held a meeting with other agencies, including Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Public Works Department (PWD), the transport department, and the municipal corporations, where action taken reports were submitted. The reports indicated that fines of over Rs 7 crore were imposed.

The fines were imposed under National Green Tribunal’s on severe air pollution levels in the city. The green tribunal had directed a fine of up to Rs 50,000 on construction sites for violating dust pollution norms, depending on the size of the project, and a penalty of Rs 5,000 on the burning of dry leaves and waste.
