Swachh Survekshan Survey 2017 ranks Indore as the cleanest city

Madhya Pradesh secures the top spots of Swachh Survekshan 2017 as Indore and Bhopal featured on the top two of India???s cleanest cities. The list was based on a massive survey which rated the cleanliness efforts put in by the municipalities in 500 Indian cities.

According to the survey, Navi Mumbai has been named the cleanest city in Maharashtra, at number eight followed by Pune which is at rank 13.

The other top 10 clean cities include Bhopal, Visakhapatnam, Surat, Mysuru, Tiruchirapally, New Delhi Municipal Council, Vadodara and Chandigarh.

Union Minister for Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu, while announcing the results, noted that the overall result was very satisfactory and most cities have only shown improvement in since 2014 when the Swachh Bharat mission was first launched.

He said the combined effort of each and every citizen involved in the Swachh Bharat mission has given it the shape of a ???mahayagya.??? He further stressed that this year???s survey results are ???Citizens??? Verdict??? on cleanliness in urban areas of the country with 37 lakh citizens??? enthusiastically providing feedback on cleanliness in 434 cities and towns accounting for about 60% of the total urban population in the country.

Naidu said that Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have shown very promising results by accounting for 50 of the cleanest cities on the list. Gujarat had the most, 12 clean cities, closely trailed by Madhya Pradesh with 11 cities.

Andhra Pradesh had eight of the cities that scored well on the survey.
