The Delhi government on Tuesday proposed setting up of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) along with the Centre to oversee cleaning up of Yamuna and Yamuna development front activities.
This was a part of a set of recommendations presented by urban development minister Satyendar Jain during the NCR Planning Board meeting on means to reduce pollution in the capital.
Jain has proposed 50-50% partnership between the Centre and the Delhi government in setting up of the SPV. “With this partnership, the role of multiple agencies involved in cleaning up of the river will come to an end and Yamuna will be cleaned,” he said.

In March this year, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had met Union water resources minister Uma Bharti and they had agreed to set up the vehicle.

A source said minister of state for urban development Rao Inderjeet Singh raised the issue of Delhi releasing polluted Yamuna water to Haryana from Okhla.

Officials from Central Pollution Control Board, who also attended the meeting, told the board about a plan to set up a sewage treatment plant to mitigate this problem.
Singh also raised the issue of industrial affluent released from Bhiwadi industrial area in Rajasthan and to parts of Haryana. Rajasthan government has assured to set up an affluent treatment plant to put an end to such harmful discharge into the river.
