The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), under the central government, has approved the first instalment of Rs 107 crore for the development of Agra under the Smart City project.
During the first phase, area-based development works would be carried out around Taj Mahal. Out of the total funds approved, Rs 4 crore has already been released for the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to initiate developmental works.
Agra was selected by the Central government under the smart city project in September 2016. Later, an SPV, under the name Agra Smart City Limited, was constituted and registered under Companies Act. The SPV would plan, appraise, approve, release funds, implement, manage, operate, monitor and evaluate the smart city development projects.
