Guwahati Municipal Corporation initiates cleanliness survey

 

Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) along with the Kamrup (Metro) district administration initiated a survey among city-based schools, educational institutions and government offices to assess cleanliness across the city about the programme ??? Swachh Sarvekshan 2018.
Monalisa Goswami, GMC Commissioner, stated, ???We have been taking several initiatives to make Guwahati the cleanest city.??? She also spoke about the Swachhata app, with the help of which citizens can register their complaints, following which authorities will immediately look into it within a specified time frame.

Mrigen Sarania, Mayor, said waste management is an important part of ensuring urban sanitation. ???Every Tuesday and Friday is set aside to segregate dry waste and wet waste. For this, 58 organisations have been roped in and allotted different work.???

Actor Kapil Bora was hailed as the brand ambassador for the programme. ???I???m glad to be a part of this initiative and would like to be called as the goodwill ambassador, rather than brand ambassador. I shall support and promote swachhata in any way I can,??? Bora said.

The programme aims at encouraging citizens to to participate on a large scale in the cleanliness drive and create awareness among all sections of the society about working together to make towns and cities cleaner.

Goswami added that the Google toilet locator is also going to be of great help.
The GMC will also conduct a city-based survey to identify the cleanest school, hotel, hotel, hospital, market association and resident welfare association in the city.

The Swachh Sarvekshan is being conducted by the Centre under the Swachh Bharat Mission (urban) to encourage cities to improve sanitation.

The survey also intends to foster a spirit of healthy competition among towns and cities to improve their service delivery to citizens, towards creating cleaner cities.
